COSPRA stands for Child Online Safety, Protection and Reporting of Abuse.
It is the Ndukwe Kalu Foundation’s child online protection initiative focused on promoting awareness, encouraging safer online practices, strengthening stakeholder collaboration and supporting better approaches to preventing and responding to online abuse.
As children spend more time online, protecting them requires more than restricting access to technology.
Children need the knowledge and confidence to navigate the digital world safely. Parents and teachers need the tools to guide them. Institutions need effective policies and response mechanisms. Technology stakeholders need to build safer digital environments.
The COSPRA Summit is the flagship annual gathering of the initiative.
It creates a platform for policymakers, regulators, educators, technology stakeholders, child-protection actors, civil society and other stakeholders to discuss emerging digital risks and identify practical approaches to protecting children online.
Teachers are an important part of the child online protection ecosystem. COSPRA engages educators through training and discussions covering areas such as online safety, cyberbullying, privacy, digital citizenship, reporting online threats and parental involvement.
COSPRA Teachers Engagement Training brought together teachers from Various schools, with contributions from stakeholders including NAPTIP, NCC, the FCT Secondary Education Board and Internet Society Nigeria.
Children are not merely beneficiaries of online protection. they are active participants in the digital world.
COSPRA promotes student-focused awareness and sensitization that helps young people understand online risks, protect their privacy, recognize unsafe situations and make responsible decisions online.
COSPRA therefore extends beyond the annual summit through stakeholder webinars, panel conversations and follow-up engagements.
In 2024, three pre-summit webinars examined recommendations from the 2023 COSPRA Summit, covering digital literacy, safety and privacy, and multi-stakeholder responsibilities. Together, the three sessions engaged over 99 participants.
